Almost everyone knows what a meme is, or at least has an idea. Many people consume and share them on a daily basis; some people produce them. If practically everyone understands what we mean when we talk about memes, how much can there be to say about them? Much. Especially when we think of memes in terms of political communication, intervening in the public sphere and in the link with citizens. With memes we don't just laugh; they have something even more powerful: they generate empathy and make us feel identified. They take us as if in a loop to share them with other people, contributing to the circulation and amplification of ideas or news.Memes are part of a series of phenomena of digital culture; they are productions with their own weight that are here to stay. There is a lot to observe, analyze and discuss about them. Keywords: memes; memetics; digital communication; politics, social networks.
