Political parties are not dead, they have undergone profound transformations that have substantially altered their functions due to: 1) the growing distance and disconnection between the parties and their bases; 2) the functional approach of the parties to the state, which is expressed in their economic dependence and their decreasing ability to represent citizen demands, and 3) their internal operations and communication strategy that are less and less programmatic, more personalistic and more oriented to neglect their adversaries (turned into enemies). At the confluence of these factors, political organizations become "a machine of government with a totalizing claim."
